Making your own Almond Milk

The process of preparation is very simple, and you only need almonds and water for an elixir rich in vitamins and minerals. Almond milk is especially healthy and beneficial beverage, mainly because it does not contain cholesterol, but also because it is rich in vitamins and micro elements. The almond milk is a great alternative for cow milk, since it is consisted of 20 percent of proteins.

It contains more vitamin E than spinach and it provides the necessary amount of phosphorus for strong teeth and bones, and it has 4 times more the amount of calcium than cow milk has- even 370 mg of calcium in 100 grams of almond milk. Also, it is rich in potassium, zinc, iron, vitamins from group B, copper and manganese. Doctors recommend almond milk for quick and effective healing of stomach and duodenum ulcer, heartburn and prevention of gastrointestinal tract. Moreover, it stimulates and enables the secretion of the bile and in the same time it stimulates bowel movement and helps with chronic colitis and diarrhea.

Almond milk helps with colds, asthma, insomnia, impotency and anemia and it is a great source of energy and a stimulant for brain activity and strengthening of the memory. The balanced level of vitamin A in this milk improves the sight and influences the ability of the eyes during adaptation to different lights.

A glass of almond milk contains 50 percent of the recommended daily intake of vitamin E- an antioxidant which lowers the growth of harmful, free radicals, which, according to some studies, cause cancer. It contains a lot of B vitamins (riboflavin) and iron, necessary for the growth and proper functioning of the muscle tissue. Almond milk is lactose free, so you can freely drink it without fear of digestive problems. It is low calorie (1 glass contains only 40 calories) – it does not contain saturated fats, which makes it very useful for people who want to lose weight. Since it contains flavonoids it helps in the lowering of the cholesterol levels and protects the heart.

Additionally, it has a positive influence on beauty- pure almond milk gives healthy skin and hair. Do you need other reasons to prepare this healing drink?

You need only 1 glass of raw almonds and 3-4 glasses of water (bottled of filtered).

Preparation:

Soak the almonds in water overnight. In the morning, sip the water, and add 3-4 glasses of bottled or filtered water. Mix it in a blender for 2 to 3 minutes, strain it and put it in a glass vessel. If kept in the fridge it can last 2 to 3 days.

Use: You can sweeten a glass of almond milk with little honey, cinnamon, cacao or vanilla.

Advice: Do not throw away the pulp which remained after the straining. With it, you can prepare marzipan, crackers, mix it with muesli or dry it and get almond flour. You can also make a great hydrant face mask if you add a little sour cream and honey.

Apply the mixture of almond pulp, sour milk and honey on cleaned skin and keep it like that for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash off the face and wipe it with a napkin. Your skin will be thankful.
